On 29 June, Denis Sassou Nguesso, the President of the Republic of Congo, was awarded with the diploma of Honorary Doctor of the National Research University Higher School of Economics.
The President, who paid a state visit to Russia, spoke at the Academic Council of the HSE University in St. Petersburg. The diploma recognized his contribution to the development of humanitarian initiatives and was presented as a sign of respect and friendship. The President thanked the HSE University for the conferred title and delivered a lecture.
After the ceremony, Andrey Maslov, Director of the HSE’s Centre for African Studies, and Deputy Director, Vsevolod Sviridov, had a meeting with Jean-Claude Gakosso, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Congo. They presented him with an analytical handbook “Africa 2023: Opportunities and Risks” prepared by the Center. They also had a fruitful discussion of several issues on Congolese digital development. The country is tightly committed to the principles of e-governance. Mr. Gakosso considers that digital technologies are beneficial for improving governance, transparency and the quality of public services for citizens.
