From April 14-16, 2025, the city of Marrakech, Morocco, hosted GITEX Africa 2025, the largest African science-tech and startup exhibition.
The three-day lasting event gathered pioneers in digital technologies, CEOs and policymakers to explore ground-breaking advancements. At the exhibition site, innovators presented their latest developments in fields like AI, fintech, cybersecurity, agritech, digital health, and others.
The Delegation of the Centre for African Studies comprising Program’s Coordinator Andrey Maslov, Deputy Coordinator Philip Grinin and Expert Anna Bondarenko also participated in the event. On behalf of the “Intexpertise” Stand they presented the e-Governance Knowledge Sharing Program and exchanged contacts with different stakeholders in the field of African digital development.
During their stay in Marrakech, the Delegation met with Ali Salatou Adji, an official from the Republic of Niger. Since January 2024, he has been serving as the Director General of the National Agency for the Information Society of the Republic of Niger (ANSI), a government agency established in 2007 and responsible for the implementation of strategies, programs and projects aimed at the promotion and development of information and communication (ICT) and digital technologies in the country. On April 17, 2025, under General Tchiani’s decree, he was appointed Head of the Ministry of Communications Technology & Digital Economy of the Republic of Niger. The parties discussed opportunities for establishing cooperation in the field of e-governance.
The Program’s delegation also had a meeting with Nkundwe Moses Mwasaga, Director General of the ICT Commission of Tanzania, and a round of meetings with African companies’ representatives.
