The consistent and successful digitalization of public administration builds on adoption of sectoral strategies, policies and regulations promoting and effectively coordinating the implementation of e-Government initiatives. Proper regulations and standards that establish incentives and restrictions would also boost funding and ameliorate resource allocations.
The pervasive digitalization of administrative processes, increase of infrastructure reliance on IT coupled with dependency on foreign solutions and the ever-growing number of Internet users in Africa results in multiplication and diversification of attack vectors and rising cybersecurity risks to critical government data and infrastructure and requires comprehensive protection of data and software that is used to monitor and control physical infrastructure.
The rapidly growing African population creates the demand for improving citizen registration and data collection methods and introducing more accessible and inclusive public services. Citizen-oriented e-services allowing feedback and participation would contribute to improving the quality of life, inclusion and better resource allocation. Furthermore, their adoption would strengthen democratic processes through transparency and enhance citizen trust in government.
Urban development will be a major theme of the XXI century in Africa and a factor in determining the dynamics of both economic growth and political sustainability. The pressure of urbanization on urban infrastructure can be effectively addressed through adoption of Smart City services which allow for improving transport networks, urban management and safety, as well as facilitate service delivery.
